If you’ve struggled enough with your weight and dieting has not given you the desired results, we may be able to help. Weight loss surgery, commonly known as Bariatric surgery, is offering hope to many who are suffering from the medical complications of severe obesity.

Being a Multispeciality hospital in Mumbai, our surgeons understand that obesity is a clinical condition that may be difficult with diet and exercise alone. This is why we offer a comprehensive approach to weight loss. Obesity can not only limit your ability to be active, it can also lead to serious health conditions   diabetes, high blood pressure and sleep apnea.

Bariatric surgery can help weight loss in ways like:

  • Restricting the food intake you can consume at one time by reducing the functional size of the stomach.
  • Reducing the number of calories the small intestine can absorb.
  • Reduces hunger.

Procedures

In order to be eligible to undergo this surgery, a person should fulfil the following criteria:

For Asian Patients:

  • Body Mass Index (BMI) of 37.5 or higher without medical issues.
  • Body Mass Index (BMI) of 32.5 or higher with medical issues.

For International Patients:

  • Body Mass Index (BMI) of 40 or higher.
  • Body Mass Index (BMI) of 35 or higher accompanied by health problems such as type 2 diabetes,  high blood pressure.
  • Inability to lose weight despite persistent efforts to lose weight over a period of 6-12 months.

Our bariatric surgeons will work to help you with a personalized weight-loss plan and determine which surgery or procedure is best for you.

Roux-en-Y Gastric Bypass:

It’s a type of weight-loss surgery that reduces the absorption of calories in the small intestine as well as decreases the size of the stomach. This surgery helps to reduce the size of your upper stomach to a small pouch. This pouch is then attached directly to a part of the small intestine called the Roux limb, thereby reducing the amount of fat and calories you absorb from the foods you eat.

Sleeve Gastrectomy:

In this surgery, a part of the stomach is removed from the body and the remaining part of the stomach is shaped into a tube-like structure. This reduction in the size results in a lesser capacity to ingest food & reduces hunger.

Though the Bariatric Surgeon is the primary consultant, he runs with a team of other specialities like Endocrinologist, Nutritionist, Psychologist & Physical therapist. Each surgical option includes a structured follow-up plan, continuous guidance and support by our dedicated experts.
