Introduction
Dr. Tilakdas S. Shetty (MS, DNB, FRCS) was the Deputy Dean & Professor and Head of Department of General Surgery at K J Somaya Medical College. He was a distinguished Professor of Surgery and Head of Unit at T. N. Medical College & B.Y.L. Nair Charitable Hospital in Mumbai, India. He completed his postgraduate training in General Surgery at the same institution in 1996, followed by the Diplomate of National Board from New Delhi in 1998 and the Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons (Edinburgh) in 2000. Dr. Tilakdas Shetty has a specialized interest in diabetic foot surgery and has been a dedicated teaching faculty member for over three decades, mentoring postgraduate students and serving as an examiner in General Surgery all over the country and Fellowship in Diabetic Foot Surgery conducted by MUHS.
Dr. Tilakdas Shetty is actively involved in various professional organizations, including the Diabetic Foot Society of India, the Indian Chapter of IHPBA, the Association of Minimal Access Surgeons of India, the Association of Surgeons of India, and the Association of Medical Consultants, Mumbai. His commitment to education and professional development is evident through his participation as faculty at state-level continuing medical education (CME) programs conducted by MUHS. He started the Diabetic Foot Clinic at B.Y.L. Nair Hospital in collaboration with the Endocrinology unit, providing specialized care for patients with diabetic foot conditions.
With over 25 publications in peer-reviewed journals, Dr. Tilakdas Shetty has made significant contributions to medical research. In recognition of his contributions to medical science, he was awarded the Hargobind Foundation Medical Fellowship in 2003.
